My goodness packing was tough. That was a task that I put off for awhile because I simply had no idea where to start! Luckily I had lots of good advice from family and friends. I also had my mom to help. I could have done it without her, but I would have forgotten nearly everything I needed! One night we sat down and conquered it together. She read through blogs and suggestions of others who had done it first, and I followed her directions. One of the things that mom bought that was incredibly useful were space saver bags. I thought it was ridiculous, and as it turns out I was wrong. I was able to fit all of my clothes in one suitcase with them and still have extra room! Mom also bought some packing cubes. We rolled most of the space saver bags up and fit them in the packing cubes, which allowed us to keep things separate and more organized. They were so helpful that Ben got some for himself! Mom started helping me pack around 9pm and we didn't finish until about 3am. It was quite the process. But, we were able to decide what I was missing and order it on Amazon. (Much easier than going to the store and getting distracted by things I don't need!) Some of the things we ordered included an adapter, Poo-Pourii (one travel sized for weekend getaways and one for the flat), sunscreen because apparently it is very difficult to find in Spain, and a battery pack. Now that I've been here a whole day and a half I can say that the most useful purchases this far, aside from the adapter, have been the space savers and the packing cubes. It has made keeping organized in a small space very easy! I know exactly where my things are, and my clothes don't get mixed up with my toiletries or miscellaneous items like medicine and journaling supplies. Finally, as our packing project neared its end around 2am I had to decide which clothes to pack. This was the hardest part! We decided it best to stick to neutral colors and things that are easily layered. In my suitcase I included: two pair of tennis shoes (one for working out and one for everyday activities), one pair of black sandals and one pair of brown, a black and a brown belt, a long grey rain jacket and a shorter light-weight black one. After that I packed only enough shirts for 10 days and four pair of jeans to alternate. I've heard that the washing machines here are very small and it is common not to have a dryer; so, I am expecting to do laundry often. I have already noticed that many people hang their clothes out to dry- even when it is raining! In the end I threw in a scarf and a pair of gloves just incase. Not being able to pack my entire wardrobe was difficult to say the least!

I too am surprised and delighted that the space savers and packing cubes cane in so handy. Tell your roomies you’re welcome for the Poo Pourri! 😇
